Environment

Novell ZENworks 10 Configuration Management with Support Pack 3 - 10.3

Situation

Error applying System Update 10.3.1 to Primary server although the server is at an appropriate version to apply the update:

ERROR (from ZCC):

One or more pre-requisite updates failed to install to this device. Ensure all pre-requisite updates have been applied successfully and try again.

Resolution

This error can be the result of a number possible issues.

If it describes a true condition (for example trying to apply 10.3.1 update to a server that does not meet the prerequisite) then update the server to the proper prerequisite version before applying 10.3.1.

or:

If it is seen when the server is at the prerequisite version do the following:

Check zmd-messages.log (debug and above) for SystemUpdateModule errors
Check for proper rights on all ZENworks directories (Linux)
Check the status of previous updates in the database (select * from zSystemUpdateDeviceInfo where deviceuid=<guid of primary that fails> ). Look for errors on previous updates. This would be any status that is not 'FINISHED'. If the previous update was eventually baselined and successful and ONLY if it no longer necessary for applying to any older version devices in the zone, try deleting the older System Update(s) in ZCC and reapply.
