Environment

Novell Cluster Services 1.8.4
Novell Open Enterprise Server 2 (OES 2) Linux Support Pack 2
Novell Open Enterprise Server 2 (OES 2) Linux Support Pack 3

Situation

NSS partition and pools already exist on a device that has not been marked shareable for Novell Clustering.
Using NSSMU or iManager to mark the device as now shared, returns NSS error 20896.
NSS error 20896 = zERR_NWCS_SHARE_VIOLATION

Resolution

With OES2, OES2 SP1 and SP2, nssmu and iManager will not allow you to change the share flag on a device that already has an NSS pool on it.

To work around this, you can use evmsgui to set the share flag on the device.

1.  Using nssmu, figure out which device you want to set the share flag on.
2.  Start evmsgui and go to the SEGMENTS tab.
3.  Under the NWSegMgr section, locate the disk identified in step 1 and right-click it.
4.  Select the "Change Shared" option now available.
5.  Set the "Shared Status" from No to Yes and click the "Change Shared" button.
6.  Choose "Save" and then "Quit" from the evmsgui toolbar.
7.  The device should now show marked as shareable in nssmu and iManager.
