Environment

Novell Data Synchronizer Connector for Mobility
Novell Data Synchronizer Connector for GroupWise
Novell Data Synchronizer

Situation

When trying to connect with the E71 phones to the Datasync server you get following message:
"Connection error! Try again later."

Resolution

Some phones do require to have a certificate that has host name / DNS of the Datasync server listed in the certificate file. The Datasync is delivered with a default, self-signed certificate that does not have a hostname in the file. You will need to use, for instance, GroupWise "Gwcsrgen" utility that is include with any GW8 build to generate new CSR file where you specify a hostname of the Datasync server. Send the CSR file to any 3rd party CA or use your own eDir CA to get private certificate. More information on that topic can be found at:

Next try if the Nokia device can make a connection to the Datasync server via WiFi connection instead of using GPRS. If this works, then there might be a problem with the GPRS provider configuration settings. Usually you get the phone configured by receiving and accepting a configuration SMS from the service provider. You can have a look how the automated SMS has configured the connection, then delete the GPRS profile and create it manually with following changes compared to the previous settings:

- if the predefined GPRS profile uses DNS automatic, try manual profile with a fixed DNS server(s)
- if the predefined GPRS profile uses a proxy server, try manual profile without the proxy server
- if the predefined GPRS profile uses normal authentication, try manual profile with a secure authentication configured

After you created manually new GPRS profile settings, see if the connection to the Datasync server works also via GPRS.
