Windows 7 Explorer to NetWare via CIFS can hang Explorer when browsing

Situation

If a drive is mapped to a NetWare volume via CIFS then expanded, Explorer can hang and the 'busy' icon will show. Some directories can further be expanded whilst others can't. If Explorer is closed and reopened the drive mapping has gone and the cursor is still busy.
