Environment

Novell Client for Windows Vista
Novell Client 2 for Windows Vista/2008
Novell Client 2 SP1 for Windows Vista
Novell Client 2 SP1 for Windows Server 2008
Novell Client 2 SP1 for Windows 7
Novell Client 2 SP1 for Windows Server 2008 R2
Microsoft Windows 2008
Microsoft Windows 7
Microsoft Windows Vista

Situation

After logging in and mapping drives, some of the directory listings may show the folders contain no files, even though they do actually contain files.

Resolution

Workaround:

Set the "UNC Path Filter" setting to "Off" in the "Advanced Settings" of the Novell Client Properties.

Additional Information

By design, Novell's UNC Path Filter intercepts calls that would have otherwise gone to Microsoft's MRxSMB redirector ("Microsoft Client for Microsoft Networks", i.e. LanmanWorkstation) and preemptively fails them if the network path they refer to is a known NCP server path that the workstation already has an established NCP connection to.

Because disabling the UNC Path Filter resolves the problem, it is likely that there exists on the affected workations some software which is somehow in conflict with the NCUncFilter.sys file system driver, and turning "UNC Path Filter" off has simply eliminated NCUncFilter.sys from the picture.
