Environment

Novell ZENworks 10 Configuration Management with Support Pack 3 - 10.3

Situation

Attempts to wake up a managed device fail.

Third party utility successfully wakes up device when run from the server that fails to wake up the same device.

The loader-messages.log from the ZCM server reports the following error:

WakeOnLANHandler : Error saving checkpoint file.] [] [java.lang.NullPointerException

Resolution

In ZCC, browse to the ZCM Primary Server, and then drill down on Settings > Infrastructure Management >Non-detectable IP Addresses, delete the entry that matches the primary address of the server.

Additional Information

The ZCM server was configured with a "Non-detectable IP Address" that was the same IP as the primary address for the server.  This caused the WOL Handler fail to get the subnet address of the server when attempting to determine which device should send the WOL request.
