Environment

Novell Access Manager 3.1 Windows Novell Identity Server
Novell Access Manager 3.1 Access Administration

Situation

Access Manager 3.1 Support Pack 2 Admin Console and Identity server installed on Windows 2008 server. Everything working as expected in staging environment. Administrator tried to uninstall the components by running the following operations:

1.Go to Control Panel >Programs >Programs and Features >Uninstall a Program.
2.Select “AccessManagerServer†and click on Uninstall/Change.
3.Click Next and Select "Complete Uninstall" and click uninstall button.
4.Enter the eDirectory password and wait for the un-installation to proceed.

Instead of uninstalling cleanly, the uninstall process would hang at the  “Files†section.

Resolution

Issue reported to development but workaround exists. To workaround the issue, do the following when the uninstall hangs - note that when uninstaller hangs at this point, edir, imanager and NAM components are already removed from the machine. A few files and registry entries still exist however, and these need to be cleaned.

* Kill the "Uninstall_AccessManagerServer" process using windows task manager.
* Delete folder "C:\Novell"
* Delete folder "C:\Program Files (x86)\Novell"
* Delete folder "C:\Program Files\Novell\Nsure Audit"
* Delete registry entries "\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NOVELL\AccessManager"
* Delete registry entries "\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NOVELL\NDS"
* Delete registry entries "\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NOVELL\nici_x64"
* Reboot the machine to complete uninstallation.
