Situation

This article discusses how to resolve the issue where the PlateSpin Management Service crashes when installed on Windows 2003 SP1 and SP2 with the latest security updates installed.

The event viewer shows the following event:

Description:
Event code: 3005
Event message: An unhandled exception has occurred.

Message: Could not load type
'System.Security.Authentication.ExtendedProtection.ChannelBinding' from
assembly 'System, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral,
PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089'.

 

Resolution

This is a known issue with the IIS Process Worker in Windows after applying certain security patches.

To resolve this issue, uninstall the automatically installed Microsoft security patch and re-install manually. The Microsoft patches can be found below.
