Environment

Novell Client for Linux 2
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11

Situation

Novell Client 2 login and drive mappings configured to run from an init script, on startup of SuSE Enterprise Linux Server 11.   At server startup, logins and mappings fail to work properly, and an error messages occurs:

initd message: novfs kernel loadable module is not installed correctly...

Additionally, re-prioritizing the customer script, by bumping its priority within the runlevel scripts, fails to resolve the issue.  However, once the server has completed multi-user initialization, manual login and drive mappings complete successfully.

Resolution

Further testing showed that the login and mappings were occurring before the Novell Client 2 module, novfsd, was fully initialized.  Customer moved their login and mapping script code to occur within the initialization script for the Novell Client 2, which allowed the needed module, novfsd, to completely initialize, before the login and mappings occurred.  Mappings complete successfully.
