Environment

Novell GroupWise 8

Situation

Messages that contain extended characters in the message body can display corrupted results when received with an Internet Mail client like Yahoo or GMail.  This can happen if using a MIME Encoding for sent messages set to "Windows Default".

Resolution

To correct the issue, set the MIME Encoding for the message to UTF-8.  This can be set to be the default encoding by using the following steps.

1.  Login to Webaccess
2.  Click on Options | Send Options | MIME Encoding | UTF-8

This can also be done for all users within the domain through ConsoleOne using the following steps:

1. Right click the Domain object and choose GroupWise Utilities | Client Options
2. Choose Send | Send Options | MIME Encoding | UTF-8

Status

Additional Information

Default MIME Encoding for GroupWise 8.x  when an account is first created is UTF-8 unless the default has been changed by the administrator.  It is recommended that UTF-8 be used whenever possible.
