Environment

Novell GroupWise 8

Situation

Messages that contain extended characters in the message body have corrupted results for the recipients.
For example, the messages is sent with the characters éçèêÄæÆôöòâ which upon receipt show up as `éç??Ä??ôö?â.

Resolution

This is a problem with the MIME Encoding used by the sender.  This will definitely show if using "Windows Default" for MIME Encoding, but could have variations for other MIME Encodings.  To correct the problem, change the MIME Encoding to UTF-8.

Steps to Duplicate:

1.  Compose a message in Webaccess with the default encoding set to "Windows
Default".  This can be done using the keystrokes New | Mail | Send Options | MIME Encoding
2.  Copy the characters éçèêÄæÆôöòâ into the message body and send to an Internet recipient.
3.  Message will be received with some extended characters incorrect in the message body.

Additional Information

The default MIME Encoding for GroupWise 8.x should normally be set to UTF-8.  If it is not set for this encoding, you can set this for all users on a per domain basis in ConsoleOne by changing the Client Options | Send | MIME Encodign parameter to UTF-8.
