Environment

Novell ZENworks 10 Configuration Management with Support Pack 3 - 10.3
May 2010 PRU

Situation

Error below is seen in zmd-messages log, also in ZCC.

[DEBUG] [05/07/2010 14:50:23.281] [1640] [ZenworksWindowsService] [31] []
[BundleManager] [] [Error is: Could not find the file "hw.kb" to install.] []

Resolution

Workaround:
  1. Login to ZCC and browse to the "Bundles" page using the link on the left-hand side
  2. Append "&uid=/System" to the end of the URL, this will result in a URL similar to
    https://[zcm server DNS name]/zenworks/jsp/index.jsp?pageid=bundleList&uid=/System
Press enter, this will show the system bundles
  3. Click on the "System Bundles" link, select only the "Knowledge Base" bundles, and select "Delete"
  4. Navigate to the "Configuration" page and at the top, click on the "Asset Inventory" tab
  5. Click on "Action" under "Local Software Products"
  6. Select "Update Knowledgebase with Local Product changes"
Under the Knowledge Base Status section, the status of the KB merge process will eventually show completed (this could take up to 25 minutes). Once this completes, delete the PRU that failed and redeploy the latest PRU. The errors should not be seen after refreshing a device.

This issue is no longer seen in ZENworks 11. There will not be an official fix in 10.3.x.

Additional Information

To track the KB merge process, look in the loader-messages.log on the server.
