Situation
Create a SuSE-release file in /etc (default directory that already exists) with the following two lines of text (filename and text inside are case-sensitive):
SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9 (i586)
VERSION = 9
iManager 2.5 installation fails with Error: "Open Enterprise Server version 1.5 requires red-carpet."
Error "Red-carpet version 2 is not supported on this operating system."

Resolution
Once that file is there try the installation again. With this file present the iManager installation should proceed normally.
Additional Information
The iManager installation looks for /etc/SuSE-Release which contains operating system information. A server without this file fails to install Red-Carpet which prevents the iManager installation.
The SuSE-release file should be present on any server by default and simply creating it, while making the installation work, does not mean that the system is supported (if this is tried on an unsupported configuration where the SuSE-release file is legitimately absent). You may want to verify the media from which the server was installed is valid to ensure there are not other inconsistencies in the filesystem.
