HOWTO: Validate LUN sizes for ESX

This article discusses how to validate the size of a LUN for PowerConvert/Portability Suite.

Resolution

Details

This may be due to ESX/vCenter publishing incorrect information, to check this try the following:

If ESX was discovered via vCenter:

1) Open IE.
2) Go to IP address of vCenter.
3) Login with vCenter credentials.
4) Click on 'Browse objects managed by this host' at the bottom right.
5) Login.
6) Click on the 'content' link.
7) Click on the 'ha-folder-root' link.
8) Click on the 'ha-datacenter' link.
9) Open the VIC and find the datastore UUID for the LUN.
10) Back in IE, click on the UUID link for that LUN.
11) Click on the 'info' link.

If ESX was discovered directly:

1) Open IE.
2) Go to IP address of ESX server.
3) Login root.
4) Click on 'Browse objects managed by this host' at the bottom right.
5) Login.
6) Click on the 'content' link.
7) Click on the 'ha-folder-root' link.
8) Click on the 'ha-datacenter' link.
9) Open the VIC and find the datastore UUID for the LUN.
10) Back in IE, click on the UUID link for that LUN.
11) Click on the 'info' link.

If the ESX/vCenter object lists the LUN incorrectly please contact VMWare support.

Portability Suite server retrives the information from this object on ESX/vCenter, once it is reporting correctly a refresh server details will update Portability Suite with the correct information.
