OES2 SP2 'cluster status' command does not display cluster status information

Environment

Novell Open Enterprise Server 2 (OES 2) Linux Support Pack 2
Novell Cluster Services 1.8.4
oes2sp2-March-2010-Scheduled-Maintenance-6898

Situation

In Novell cluster (NCS) environments with 'multiple' cluster nodes, nodes randomly exhibit the behavior that the 'cluster status' command displays no cluster information.

Resolution

This problem has been identified, resolved, and a fix is targeted to be released with the next upcoming scheduled maintenance patch for OES2.

Additional Information

The behavior described here is mostly encountered when multiple nodes are started at the same time, and therefor also join the cluster at the same time.
Rebooting a single node at a time does not appear to be triggering this problem.
Also, when the problem was observed, the nodes were always capable of joining the cluster properly and nothing indicated there was a problem.

In this case, a customer is deploying a new cluster that consists of 6 nodes and a lot of testing activities take place, this issue was found during that testing phase.

Steps to reproduce :
  1.    Shutdown all 6 cluster nodes.
  2.    Boot up a node and wait until it joined the cluster as master
  3.    Boot up all other five cluster nodes (at exact the same time)
  4.    Wait until all nodes joined the cluster
  5.    Issue the "cluster status" command on all nodes and see which node does not show result

Randomly, a node will not be able to show any information about the cluster.

Workaround:
The 'rcnovell-ncs restart' command resolved the behavior for the node that was not capable of displaying cluster details
