Dell Poweredge R710 server fails to boot after conversion of RHEL 4 or 4.5

Situation

This article provides info about issue when target Dell PowerEdge R710 server fails to boot after conversion .
 
When performing an X2P conversion of a RHEL 4.0 or 4.5 based source to a Dell Poweredge R710 server, the target machine hangs when booting the Kernel.

This is caused because Dell Poweredge 710 server does not support RHEL 4 or 4.5. F or more information please see the following links :

Resolution

As a workaround,  select the option to load  vmlinuz-2.6.9-67.0.15.EL instead of vmlinuz-2.6.9-67.0.15.ELsmp from the boat loader menu. This will boot the server in single cpu mode and allow the server to boot up .
