Situation

This article discusses the issue of not being able to install image server on a windows machine. The install option is grayed out and the below warning is displayed.

 

"The domain name contains characters that may cause errors or conflicts"

This issue occurs when the domain name contains an underscore (_).
 

Resolution

To resolve this issue, apply one of the following:

 

1. Install Image server on a machine which is in a workgroup or joined to a domain that does not have the underscore symbol in its NetBIOS name.

2.  Try to use the local administrator account of the server on which Image server is being installed. Instead of domain name, provide the NetBIOS name or the IP address of the server to authenticate.
