Situation
This article discusses the following error during an incremental synchronization job at step "Waiting for controller to start" on target VM.
Error: Machine <Target VM Name> failed to startup
The possible cause for this failure is an IP address conflict on the network. Temporary IP address assigned to target virtual machine when under control is possibly being used by another machine in the same network. This will happen if the target VM is assigned a static IP for take control during job configuration.
Resolution
Change the IP address on the other server to avoid this IP address conflict on the Target VM.
OR
Re-create the Protection Contract with new IP address for the Target VM Take Control and configure new synchronization schedule .
