Environment

Novell GroupWise 8 Hot Patch 1
Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition

Situation

Cannot start or errors seen when trying to start GroupWise MTA service on a Windows server.
Installed Process Monitor to gain more information about the issue.
Errors noted in log for Process Monitor v2.8 (8201)
8201 errors on paths for MTA Queues and log file paths indicating access was restricted and the MTA could not create the needed directory structure.

Resolution

Windows or Domain user starting the MTA server did not have sufficient access rights to the servers directory structure.
In the above case the folder that the Domain directory was located in was created by a user with insufficient rights to create needed directory structure.
Another folder was created on the server at the C:\ level and the domain was copied to this directory.  In the domain properties in ConsoleOne the path was changed to reflect the domain directory change.  The MTA startup file -Home path was also changed to reflect the directory change.
The MTA was able to start without error once it was started in a directory with out the restrictions the previous directory had.
