Situation

This article discusses the issue when target VM on an ESX host does not boot into ISO.

When performing an X2V conversion through VirtualCenter the target vm boots into pxe and not into the iso. The following error appears in the diagnostics:

Type

RequiresUserIntervention

ReportCode

MachineFailToBoot

Resolution

Although the iso gets copied correctly to the default path on the ESX server, we are unable to execute the iso. This error occurs if the account being used for Virtual Center/ESX contains special characters, such as $, % etc…

Check the account being used for the conversion. Ensure that account must not contain any such characters.  You must remove the special characters in order for target vm to boot into the iso.
