Environment

PlateSpin Forge
PlateSpin Migrate
PlateSpin Protect

Situation

Wen opening the Migrate client or during the data transfer portion of migration or replication, the following error causes the job to fail:

Error: An error occurred in the server – String was not recognized as a valid DateTime

Resolution

In order to resolve this issue it is necessary to "reset" the PlateSpin server's controller information and ensure the system time is correct:

1. Stop the PlateSpin Management and PlateSpin Operations Framework Controller services
2. Delete the Active.log and Archive.log files found here:

D:\Program Files\PlateSpin Forge Server\Controller\EventLog
..\PlateSpin Migrate Server\Controller\EventLog
..\PlateSpin Protect Server\Controller\EventLog

3. Modify the system time so that it is correct and in sync with the ESX server's time
4. Reboot the VM
5. After the reboot, verify the PlateSpin Management and PlateSpin Operations Framework Controller services are running.

Cause

This issue tends to occur only when the PlateSpin Migrate or PlateSpin Protect server is on a VM.  This can happen when the Migrate, Protect, or PlateSpin Forge Management VM is out of sync with the time and date on the ESX server; or when the Migrate or Protect VM is vMotioned between ESX servers.
