Error Message: The file transfer is stalled - unable to connect to port 3725 on IP address

Situation

This article discusses information regarding error " The file transfer is stalled – unable to connect to port 3725 on IP address x.x.x.x" .
 
This error occurs during a Full Synchronization or Incremental Synchronization job. The IP address shown in the error message is source server's IP address.
 

When performing a Full synchronization or Incremental Synchronization of Windows 2003 server using File Transfer method with or without VSS the above mentioned error can happen up even though there is no firewall blocking port 3725 and the initial Setup Sync worked fine. An update on Symantec is causing the PlateSpin operation to fail while trying to stop the services while preparing for File Transfer.

Resolution

Follow these steps to resolve this issue:
 
1. Make sure any Anti-virus services are stopped on the source server prior to the synchronization.
2. Edit the protection contract from Synchronization Schedules page and remove the stop on Symantec Services by un-checking it. Then rerun a Full Synchronization.
3. Verify that 3725 is running on the Source.
