ICE Wizard Error The ice process returned an exit code of 128

Environment

Novell eDirectory 8.8 for All Platforms
Novell iManager 2.7
Latest ICE and eDirectory plug-ins installed

Situation

Customer tries to use ICE wizard to export or import an ldif file.
After Wizard starts processing it immediately returns error:

ICE Wizard Error The ice process returned an exit code of 128

LDAP traces taken at server show initial Bind of user but no further transactions




Resolution

Plug-ins have become corrupted in some manner.

Need to delete the current plug-ins and re-install them

How to delete and re-install:

  1. Goto iManager/Configure/Plugin installation/installed Novell plug-in modules/
  2. find and uninstall "eDirectory88 Plugins" and "eDirectory Import Convert Export (ICE)"
  3. Restart Tomcat after plug-ins have been removed
  4. To avoid confusion between sources of plugins, goto "iManager/Configure/iManager Server/Configure iManager/Plug-in Download/" and deselect "Query download site for new Novell Plug-in Modules (NPM)"
  5. Goto "iManager/Configure/Plugin installation/Available Novell Plug-in modules/" and remove the 2 plug-ins noted above
  6. From the Novell Download site download the " eDirectory 8.8.5 iManager 2.7.3 Plug-in"
  7. Goto "iManager/Configure/Plugin installation/Available Novell Plug-in modules/" and add the downloaded plug-in.
  8. Continue on the same page and select "install" to add the plugin back into iManager.
  9. Restart Tomcat
