Environment

Novell ZENworks 10 Configuration Management with Support Pack 2 - 10.2

Situation

Inventory scan shows both IE 7 and IE 8 after update from Internet Explorer 7 to Internet Explorer 8.

Resolution

After IE 7 to IE 8 update, the older version is still available although not seen in Add/Remove Programs .

For the option to disable the scan of the older product, use the following workaround:

  1. On the scanned device check for this folder:
    C:\WINDOWS\ie8
  2.  If there are executable files in that folder then in ZCC bring up:
Configuration > Inventory > Configure device inventory settings > Skip Directories
  3.  Add:
    C:\Windows\ie8
  4. Note: C:\WINDOWS\ie7updates was added to skip directories as part of System Update 10.2.1.
  5. Refresh the device.
  6. Remove %ZENWORKS_HOME%\work\inventory wif files.
  7. Rescan the Device.

Additional Information

Microsoft maintains the copy of  IE7 even through IE8 is installed. This allows uninstall of IE8 to restore IE7.  This backup is found in C:\WINDOWS\ie8

The active (scanned) IE 8 is found in C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer , so adding this skip directory will not affect the scan of IE8.
