Shared folder refreshes too often

Environment

Novell GroupWise 6.5

Situation

Shared folder refreshes too often
Steps to duplicate:

1. Set up a POP, IMAP, or NNTP account in your GroupWise client. Also receive a shared folder that contains a lot of items.

2. Make sure that there is a lot of data to be downloaded from the internet account.

3. Set the account from step 1 to send/retrieve every minute or two, so you can see the refresh problem.

4. Notice that upon downloading approx. 10 items, the folder view is refreshed. If it's a large shared folder, this refresh can take significant time. If there are a lot of items to be downloaded from the internet account from step 1, or if there are many accounts (for example if I'm subscribed to a lot of newsgroups), it becomes impossible to read the contents of the shared folder because it keeps refreshing over and over.

Expected result--that the send/retrieve would not refresh the folder view, considering that the user isn't looking at the account whose folder is being refreshed.

Note--This only is a problem when you're looking at a shared folder, not a regular one. The problem only happens during the send/retrieve.

Resolution

Workaround:  Don't do a send/retrieve as often.  Send/retrieve your POP/IMAP/NNTP accounts when you're not working in a shared folder.
