Registration does not resolve serial numbers to devices in the zone if the serial number contains non-hex digits

Environment

Novell ZENworks 10 Configuration Management with Support Pack 2 - 10.2

Situation

ERROR (in services-messages.log):
 
[Registration Web Service] [] [Device has an
invalid serial number of '5DXNHG2', setting serial number to <GUID>
 
Where <GUID> is the device GUID.
 
This may cause problems with last contact times.

Resolution

This is fixed in version 10.3 - see KB 7005455 "ZENworks Configuration Management SP3 (10.3) - update information and list of fixes" which can be found at https://www.novell.com/support
