Situation
Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 are the latest releases of Microsoft’s Windows technologies. From January 2010 until product end of life, Novell is extending content support for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 through ZENworks Patch Management, version 6.4.
This article describes the necessary steps for managing Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 content with Novell ZENworks Patch Management Server version 6.4 SP2 or higher.
Novell ZENworks Patch Management Server Configuration
Firewall
Content signatures for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 are available only through Novell's New Content Architecture. The Microsoft-supplied patch signatures will be downloaded from the Global Subscription Service (GSS) Clusters, but the remediation binaries (patches) will be downloaded from http(s)://www.download.windowsupdate.com.
Please consult your firewall administrator for any outbound firewall filters.

Updating the Agent on the ZENworks Patch Management Server
To enable the New Content Architecture (this only applied to Microsoft-supplied patches)
The ZENworks Patch Management 6.4 Agent for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 are shared with Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008. In order to extend these agents to these newly supported platforms, the new shared agent (version 6.4.2.504) needs to replace the existing Vista agent on the ZENworks Patch Management Server. Use the following steps to replace the agent:
Note: Windows 7 endpoints will report to the Server as Vista until the 6.4.2.504 agent is successfully deployed to the endpoint and successfully registers with the Server.
To enable the New Content Architecture (this only applied to Microsoft-supplied patches)
- Access your ZPM Update Server Web User Interface
- Go to the Options Section
- Click Configure
- Click the Content tab
- Select Enable
- Click Save
The ZENworks Patch Management 6.4 Agent for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 are shared with Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008. - Download the compressed archive "Novell ZPM Update 6.4 - Agent for Windows 7" from Novell Download and extract to the ZPM Update Server
- Copy the extracted files to the Download folder on the ZPM Server at the following location, overwriting the existing files of the same name:
<installpath>\Novell\ZENworks Patch Management Server\Webroot\Download
Note: Windows 7 endpoints will report to the Server as Vista until the 6.4.2.504 agent is successfully deployed to the endpoint and successfully registers with the Server.

No. The Agent installation program will enable Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 during installation setup. .NET Framework 3.0 is included as part of the Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 operating systems but not enabled by default.
