GWIA not sending Delivery Status Notification reports to the sender

Situation

GWIA not sending Delivery Status Notification reports to the sender
GWIA not sending DSN reports to the sender
Delivery Status Notification not working even though the sender requests for DSN

Resolution

Please make sure that the server that accepts the mail and then forwards it to GWIA is not modifying the MIME and removing the DSN requests from the MIME. The server that accepts the mail is the server to which the MX record is pointing to. If the message reaches GWIA without a DSN request, a DSN report will not be generated thus no Delivery Status Notification will be sent to the sender.

Please follow the steps listed below to make sure that GWIA does respond to DSN requests.
  1. Telnet to GWIA on port 25 by typing "telnet IPAddressOfGWIA 25 " and press Enter.
  2. Type "ehlo test.com " and press Enter.
  3. Type "mail from: <personalEmailAddress> RET=HDRS " and press Enter.
  4. Type "rcpt to: <GroupWiseEmailAddress> NOTIFY=SUCCESS,FAILURE " and press Enter.
  5. Type "Data " and press Enter.
  6. Type "Test " and press Enter.
  7. Type ". " and press Enter.
  8. Type "quit " and press Enter.
  9. Check that the user mentioned in step 4 received the email.
    Once the email has been received, the user in step 3 should have received a DSN report thus proving that GWIA responds to DSN requests.
