Situation

Symptoms:
ERROR: "Unable to load 'GWDTA1US.DLL" language resource file while launching the GroupWise Client
ERROR: "Language resource file 'GWDTA1EN.DLL' loaded while launching the GroupWise Client
Language resource file error while launching the GroupWise 8 Client
 
Changes:
Upgraded GroupWise 7 Client to GroupWise 8 Client

Resolution

Workaround Steps:
 
Method 1
  1. Click OK on the error message.
  2. Login to GroupWise 8 Client.
  3. Click Tools | Options | Environment.
  4. Interface language may or may not show "EN - English". If it shows "EN - English", please click on it again and click Apply and Close. If it does not show "EN - English", please select "EN - English" and click Apply and Close.
Method 2:
 
Use Login Scripts or ZenWorks or any other software to modify the following registry
Change HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Novell\GroupWise\Interface Language\(Default) to EN from US or UK

Notes:
This happens only on Workstations that have GroupWise 7 Client installed and the client is upgraded to GroupWise 8. The Language Interface registry entry is stored in the HKEY_CURRENT_USER and not HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. When the GroupWise Client is upgraded as one workstation user, the HKCU is modified for that user but if any other user profile is used on that workstation, the HKCU is not modified for that user causing the Language Interface error.
 
Steps to Duplicate:
  1. Install GroupWise 7 Client on the Workstation.
  2. Create 2 users in Windows XP - user1 and user2.
  3. Login as user1 in Windows and launch GroupWise Client.
  4. Logout and login as user2 in Windows and launch GroupWise Client.
  5. Now login as user1 and upgrade GroupWise 7 Client to GroupWise 8 Client and try launching GroupWise, it works fine.
  6. Now logout and login as user2 and launch GroupWise 8 Client and it gives an error message. 

    This is because HKEY_CURRENT_USER for user2 has not been modified and the registry HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Novell\GroupWise\Interface Language\(Default) is still US or UK
