Migrating a Personality using the direct method fails with "unknown error"

Environment

Novell ZENworks 10 Configuration Management with Support Pack 2 - 10.2

Situation

The following error is received on the source machine when attempting to migrate a personality using the direct method:

An unknown error has been encountered.  The error was:  Server encountered an internal error.  For more information, turn on customErrors in the server's .config file..

The log file (PersonalityMigration.xml) shows this error:

"There was an error retrieving user details for the user "DOMAIN\username". The error was: Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password."

This error is seen for both Domain users and local accounts.

Resolution

This is fixed in version 10.3 - see KB 7005455 "ZENworks Configuration Management SP3 (10.3) - update information and list of fixes" which can be found at https://www.novell.com/support
