OS X 10.9 Mavericks fails to connect to CIFS.

Environment

Novell Open Enterprise Server 2 (OES 2) Linux
Novell Open Enterprise Server 11 (OES 11) Linux

Situation

OS X 10.9 Mavericks fails to connect to a CIFS server by entering:
cifs://servername

The following error is observed :
Error: "There are no shares available or you are not allowed to access them on the server. Please contact your system administrator to resolve the problem"

Resolution

Workaround: 

Rather than entering cifs://servername specify the volume as well. 
E.g.: cifs://servername/vol1


Note :
This has been resolved with the public release of the 'May 2014 OES11SP1 Scheduled Maintenance Update'.
