Environment

Novell ZENworks 10 Configuration Management with Support Pack 2 - 10.2

Situation

ERROR in ZCC:

An error occured while downloading the update content to this device. Make sure that this device has valid content servers configured via closest server rules and that the content replication has occured to this devices content server(s)

ERROR in system-update.log:

DEBUG;Running Pre-Install Commands;;
DEBUG;Getting content for PRE_INSTALL steps of update;;
DEBUG;Exception distributing content: The Administrator has temporarily disabled access to this application.  Please contact your administrator for more information.;;
DEBUG;There was a problem getting the content for this update.  Make sure that this device has valid content servers configured via closest server rules and that the content replication has occured to this device's content server(s);;

Resolution

Check ZCC Configuration > Content > Content Blackout Schedule .

Apply the system update at a time when no Content Blackout Schedule is in effect.

Note:  In 10.3.1 or later the error is changed to suggest Content Blackout Schedule in addition to the other possible causes.

Additional Information

In the cases of throttling or content replication schedule causing inaccessible content exceptions in the system-update.log, the error as shown in ZCC will point to the correct actions.  The ZCC error does not specifically call out blackout schedule, but in this and all cases system-update.log and/or zmd-messages.log should help further with content replication issues in system update.
