Situation

Unable to login to GroupWise Messenger Client
0xD10E error while logging on to GroupWise Messenger
ERROR: "16:04:14 BA0 SPL Login failed [0xAD20]: admin - LDAP doesn't understand attribute" in the Novell Messenger Log file
ERROR: "DDCModifyEntry failed, err = no such value (-602)" on nnmContactList attribute or any other attribute in the LDAP Trace

Resolution

Make sure that the user being used to start the Novell Messenger agents has rights to the MessengerService Object by following the steps listed below:
  1. Browse to SYS:\Novell\NM\MA\ on NetWare or /etc/opt/novell/messenger on Linux or C:\Novell\NM\MA\ on Windows or any other path where the agents are installed.
  2. Edit strtup.ma .
  3. Check the user using which the agents are being started.
  4. Give that user full rights to the MessengerService Object using ConsoleOne or iManager.
  5. Shut down the Novell Messenger agents by
    Pressing F7 on the Novell Messenger Agents screen on NetWare
    OR
    Typing "rcnovell-nmma stop " and "rcnovell-nmaa stop " on Linux
    OR
    Shutting down the service on windows using Start | Run | Services.msc
  6. Start the Novell Messenger Agents by
    Typing "sys:\novell\nm\nmstart.ncf " on NetWare
    OR
    Typing "rcnovell-nmma start " and "rcnovell-nmaa start " on Linux
    OR
    Starting the service on Windows using Start | Run | Services.msc
  7. Login to the GroupWise Messenger.
