Agent Install Reports: "ZENworks Adaptive Agent already exists on the device" when agent never existed

Novell ZENworks 10 Configuration Management with Support Pack 2 - 10.2


Trying to install the ZCM Agent onto a device that does not nor has ever had the ZCM Agent, the install may abort with the error: "ZENworks Adaptive Agent already exists on the device "


Cause 1: Active VPN Software can cause this error, stop the VPN service prior to starting the Agent Install.
Cause 2: File copy error (wrong error message being displayed) - This is fixed in version 10.3 - see KB 7005455 "ZENworks Configuration Management SP3 (10.3) - update information and list of fixes" which can be found at
With this fix, a file copy error is correctly identified.
