Environment

Novell eDirectory 8.8 sp5 for Linux
Novell Open Enterprise Server 2 (OES 2 sp2) Linux
SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 Service Pack 3

Situation

** After applying SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 Service Pack 3 and Open Enterprise Server 2 (OES 2 sp2) Linux patches and during the reboot of the server, the pre-configured admin credentials are incorrect so unable to authenticate to update eDirectory objects.
E.G The admin credentials showing wrong as "cn=.admin,o=context" instead of "cn=admin,o=context" and due to which the authentication failed.

Resolution

1. cd to /etc/sysconfig/novell
2. Check oes-ldap file and look for admin credentials.
3. Modifiy the file by pressing INSERT button and correct the admin credentials and save the file.
4. Restart eDirectory using the command rcndsd restart.
5. Now again reboot the server and GUI is looking at the oes-ldap file will now read the correct admin context for an LDAP authentication and the eDirectory authentication works correctly.

Additional Information

** This happens when you configured LDAP services from YAST OES install and configuration and the wrong admin values have been specified.
