Replying to Email in Webaccess Gives Error "Unable to Process Request. Please Contact Your System Administrator"

Situation

An end-user can sometimes receive the message "Unable to process request.  Please contact your system administrator" when replying to an Internet email message from Webaccess. 

This does not happen on many messages, but will always consist of an email that contains both a plain text and html portion and an attachment.

This particular issue does not happen with the same type of message in GroupWise 7.x Webaccess.

Resolution

The problem can occur if the message content does not use the proper boundaries in a message.  In problem messages, the Content-Type header information will be similar to the order below.  This can be seen in the original MIME.822 file.

multipart/alternative
text/plain
multipart/mixed
text/html
application/<file type>

The problem occurs because a multipart/alternative type should pair the text/plain and the text/html.  A proper message content should appear like below.

multipart/mixed
multipart/alternative
text/plain
text/html
application/<file type>

To work around the problem, the end-user can change his reply format from HTML to Plain Text by clicking on the "Plain Text" button on the tool bar.
