Novell ZENworks 7.5 Asset Management - ZAM7.5

A duplicate inventory record is created when a machine, that had been previously scanned into inventory, has the client reinstalled because of an OS upgrade or a reimage.

Fixed in ZENworks Asset Management 7.5 Interim Release 20 or newer
Interim Releases can be scheduled to run automatically or can be downloaded manually at The Interim releases can be set up within the ZAM Manager for the Task server to check the site on a scheduled basis, and download and apply them automatically. Please refer to the Help Section details of how to set up automatic downloads if desired.

Each interim release is cumulative. If Interim Release 20 is not available due to a newer interim release being placed on the website, be assured that the code needed is in the later release.
With the release of IR 22, there is an .MSI available that has this fix included.  If this MSI is needed, please open an SR with Novell ZENworks support to have it sent.

Additional Information

If a Dell Optiplex 740 machine already has an inventory record in the database, then the workstation gets a new client installed, such as through an OS reinstall, the new scan will not get matched up with the already existing scan.  This happens because of a previous bug fixed with IR 12 where the Serial Number for the Dell Optiplex 740 was not being discovered.  When a new agent is installed, it does not contain this fix for the first scan, so the serial number is not picked up in the first scan.  Then the client is updated to post IR 12 and gets the fix, but by then it has created a new record.
