Environment

Novell GroupWise 7 Support Pack 3

Situation

  • Users moved from a GroupWise7 SP1 Post Office to another Post Office then upgraded to GW7 SP3 or later have problems with newly created documents.
  • Newly created docs do not show a First Name Last Name syntax for the author, but show a Domain.Post Office.User (DPU) syntax.
  • Closer examination of the syntax shows that the DPU is actually for the old Domain and old Post Office.
  • New users have no problem with the author field when creating new documents.

Resolution

There is no easy way to do this, there is not a GWCheck option to correct this behavior.  It will have to be done manually.  To do so, go into the Desktop client, and into Tools, Options, Documents, click the Properties button, Document Defaults tab.  In the Author field, please beware that the syntax should be DPU here, but make sure it is the correct Domain and Post Office, if the contents of this field do not match up to where the user is currently at, then simply remove the information in this field and hit OK.  Going back into the Properties and the Document Defaults should show the correct Domain and Post Office for the user now.  After new documents are created now, it should now show First Name Last Name.

Additional Information

The reasons for this situation happening are unknown as it has not been seen often, it is believed that there may have been a bug in GroupWise 7 SP1 that affect the user moves that caused the internal data fields to not update.  This behavior has not been seen with moves using newer code and has not been duplicatable.
