Environment

Novell iPrint for Linux
Novell iPrint for NetWare

Situation

Can NetWare NDPS (Novell Distributed Print Services) or iPrint be managed from iManager hosted on a Linux server?

Resolution

NetWare NDPS or iPrint cannot be managed from iManager hosted on a Linux server.  This limitation exists because NetWare NDPS or iPrint management through iManager relies on the RPC protocol (Remote Procedure Call).  Linux does not have the RPC protocol.

Additional Information

Managing Linux iPrint from NetWare iManager:
Linux iPrint can be managed from iManager hosted on a NetWare server.  This works because Linux iPrint relies on IPP (Internet Printing Protocol), which both NetWare and Linux have.

Workstation iManager:
Both Linux and NetWare iPrint can be managed from Workstation iManager (sometimes referred to as Mobile iManager) with the exception of printer driver upload and printer driver profile management.  Linux iPrint requires the iPrint client to be installed to the workstation, which provides the IPP support.  NetWare iPrint and NDPS requires the Novell Client for Windows with NDPS Component to be installed on the workstation, which provides the RPC protocol.  The following TIDs should be reviewed to better understand this configuration:
