Novell Access Manager 3.1 Support Pack 1
Situation
Trying to Install the Admin COnsole on a system running SLES9 SP3. The install would always fail. Looking at the install log files under /tmp/novell_access_manager, we could see thf ollowing entry in the main file:

sockbuf.c:91: ber_sockbuf_ctrl: Assertion `( (sb)->sb_opts.lbo_valid == 0x3
)' failed.
This is not any library used by ACcess Manager during the install. Interestingly, running other applications on the same SLES9 SP3 server returned similar errors eg. running the mc (Midnight Commander command) showed the following output

Resolution
Made a change to the nsswitch.conf file to not look at LDAP for group verification. The ‘mc’ command and Access Manager install were pulling group info and failed as LDAP didn’t have the info it was looking for. After this change when we ran the install, it ran without any issues.
