If the blob file for the document is known,  just restore that file from the backup to the respective storage area location.

If the blob file is unknown follow the below mentioned steps:

  1. Restore the storage area location to a temporary location.
  2. Restore wphost.db,  ngwguard.db and all the dc files from the post office folder (It can be restored from the online production post office folder).
  3. Restore wpdomain.db and dc files from the production domain folder.
  4. Install a  new tree.
  5. Install ConsoleOne and install groupwise administration snapins.
  6. Launch ConsoleOne and get connected to wpdomain.db file which was restored in step 3.
  7. Graft the groupwise objects in the new tree.(Follow KB 3291022, on how to graft groupwise objects).
  8. Go to the properties of the library and Change the path to the storage area, pointing to the restored area location.
  9. Install the agents in the test system and load the MTA and the POA.
  10. Login as user, having atleast read access to the document.
  11. Search for the document either by document number or subject.
  12. Open the document / Save it on the local drive.
  13. Login as that user in production client and import the document.
