Situation

In November 2006 the Government of the state of Western Australia announced a three year trial of daylight savings, to begin December 2006 and end March 2009.  On the 16th May 2009 a referendum was held, with the public of Western Australia voting AGAINST the permanent introduction of daylight savings.

Resolution

Corrective Action:

Novell NetWare / Open Enterprise Server (NetWare Based):
[Prior to the LAST Sunday in October - 25/10/2009]

1. From the server console Load Monitor and select "Server Parameters / Time"

2. Remove values for the following parameters:
Start of Daylight Savings Time
End of Daylight Savings Time

3. Change the following parameter:
Time Zone   to   AWST-8

4.  Exit Monitor and verify the settings have taken affect by typing TIME and checking the DST related settings.  They should match the following:

Time Zone String: "AWST-8"
DST Status: OFF
DST Start: not set
DST End: not set

5.  Modify the server's autoexec.ncf to reflect the above changes so these settings are consistent after a server reboot.  Note:  These lines should be at the top of the file.

Remove any lines that reference Start and End of daylight savings and Daylight Savings Time Offset.
Modify the value for "SET Time Zone" to the correct Time Zone name of "AWST-8"

For Example:
Top of autoexec.ncf PRIOR to modifcation
-----------------------
Set Bindery Context = ou=perth.o=novell
Set Time Zone = AWST-8AWDT
Set Daylight Savings Time Offset = 1:00:00
Set Start Of Daylight Savings Time = (OCTOBER SUNDAY LAST 2:00 AM)
Set End Of Daylight Savings Time = (MARCH SUNDAY LAST 3:00 AM)
-----------------------

Top of autoexec.ncf AFTER modifcation
-----------------------
Set Bindery Context = ou=perth.o=novell
Set Time Zone = AWST-8
-----------------------

Novell Border Manager
There are no specific time zone settings for Novell BorderManager as this product is dependant on the underlying Operating System (OS) for time.  Ensure the appropriate corrective action steps are taking for the OS prior to October 25  2009, as detailed in the above section.

Novell iChain
1. Ensure the appropriate corrective action steps are taken for the OS prior to December 3rd, as detailed in the above section titled "Novell NetWare / Open Enterprise Server (NetWare based)".

2. The iChain configuration also reads timezone info from the current.nas file. The following steps need to be performed to update the current.nas file (iChain config file) so that all time references are changed permanently:

a> Bring up the iChain management GUI
b> Access the system -> timezone tab
c> Make sure that the 'adjust clock for daylight savings time' is disabled
d> Remove the dates for Western Australia
e> Apply the changes

Novell Access Manager:
1. Ensure the appropriate corrective action steps are taken for the NetWare OS prior to December 3rd, as detailed in the above section titled "Novell NetWare / Open Enterprise Server (NetWare based)".  This is specific to NetWare Access Gateway component only.

For Access Manager components running on Linux, please ensure the appropriate action is undertaken as required for the Linux Operating System.
