Unable to login to ZLM's ZCC due to expired 2 year certificate for LDAP server

Environment

Novell ZENworks 7.2 Linux Management - ZLM7.2
Novell ZENworks 7.3 Linux Management - ZLM7.3

Situation

After about 2 years of having installed ZLM, it is not possible to login to ZCC any more, the login page never loads.  The catalina.out log shows errors like:

LifecycleException:  Exception opening directory server connection:  javax.naming.CommunicationException: localhost:389 [Root exception is java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused]
