Cluster Resources Would Disappear from SMS After Migrating to Another Node

Environment

Novell Cluster Services
Novell Open Enterprise Server 2 (OES 2) Linux SP1

Situation

Sometimes, cluster resources would disappear from SMS when the resource was migrated to another node in the cluster. There would be no errors. The resource would mount fine and would be visible to users, who could access their data with no problems. SMS, however could no longer see the resource, hence it could not be backed up with SMS on that particular node.  All of the cluster resources were affected at different times on different nodes in the cluster. Some resources would work one day but not the next.

slptool findsrvs service:smdr.novell

would show that the resource was not registered with SLP. Migrating the resource back to its original node caused the resource to again become visible to SMS.

Resolution

There was a line in the load script of all the clustered resources:

exit_on_error rcnovell-smdrd restart
The issue was resolved by removing this line from the load script for each clustered resource. This line is not there by default.
