Environment

Novell ZENworks 10 Configuration Management with Support Pack 2 - 10.2

Situation

If the license is not expired, why may this error be seen during imaging?

ERROR:  "Unable to connect to preboot server. The product license might have expired."

Resolution

Assuming the license is not expired, this error can be a generic one meaning there are underlying communications issues.  In this case, the logs should show more information about the error.

Additional Information

To get more logging, see KB 3418069 https://support.microfocus.com/kb/doc.php?id=3418069 Component Name: Imaging.

Check novell-zenimgweb.conf from %ZENWORKS_HOME%\conf\preboot\novell-zenimgweb.conf or /etc/opt/novell/zenworks/preboot/novell-zenimgweb.conf that proper address and port are available.

For example, the following from novell-pbserv.log indicates a certificate problem where the subject did not agree with DNS server name.  In this case fixing DNS corrected the problem:

06/29/09 13:13:35 -- [LicenseCheck] Checking Imaging License
06/29/09 13:13:35 -- [ZENIMGWEB-CSCKT] Failed to connect to ZCM server 192.168.0.10 at port 443. Error code: 13. Can not verify the identity of the server.
06/29/09 13:13:35 -- [ZIMGWEB-OHC] cannot connect to server : 183
06/29/09 13:13:35 -- [LicenseCheck] Sending OOB error message
06/29/09 13:13:35 -- [SCEM] OOB error message, 1855
06/29/09 13:13:35 -- [LC] close connection, 192.168.0.10

Another possible cause for this error is setting DHCP options 66/67, instead of using the preboot services DHCP proxy, see "J.1 Preboot Services and Imaging Error Messages" in " ZENworks 10 Configuration Management Preboot Services and Imaging Reference" in "ZENworks 10 Configuration Management" found at https://www.novell.com/documentation
