Environment

Novell Open Enterprise Server 2 (OES 2) Linux
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10
Novell iManager 2.7
Novell Open Enterprise Server 2 (OES 2) Linux
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10

Situation

When logging in to iManager 2.7.2 and navigating to the Configure tab |  RBS | RBS Configuration, one module is shown as out of date. The module is the Storage Content module. It displays the installed version as 1.0.0 and the available version as 3.3.0. Even after updating the Storage Content Module to 3.3.0 it still shows the older version as 1.0.0

Resolution

1.      Forcing Unrestricted Mode access in iManager 2.7.2:

1.1.   Launch iManager | Click Configure icon in the menu bar

1.2.   Select  iManager Server option | Click Configure iManager

1.3.   Select RBS tab and select “Force Unrestricted Mode†check-box. Save the changes

1.4.   Logout from  iManager

1.5.   Restart tomcat on Linux server using the following command

 r cnovell-tomcat5 restart OR

 /var/opt/novell/tomcat5 restart

2.      Uninstalling Storage Plug-ins. Refer to the TID - 3005186.

3.      Installing all Storage Plug-ins except Distributed File Service (DFS) plug-in.

3.1.   Launch iManager | Click Configure icon in the menu bar

3.2.   Select Plug-in Installation option | select Available Novell Plug-ins

3.3.   Select the following plug-in check box

AFP Management

Archive Versioning

CIFS Management

Cluster Services

Storage Management

Storage Shared

3.4.   Click install and ensure the installation process is completed
3.5.   Logout from iManager

3.6.   Restart tomcat on Linux server using the following command

 rcnovell-tomcat5 restart OR

 /var/opt/novell/tomcat5 restart

4.      Now install Distributed File Service plug-in. Repeat steps 3.1 to 3.6 with the exception that for step 3.3 ensure only “Distributed File Services Management†check box is selected and installed. NO OTHER PLUG-IN OPTIONS TO BE CHECKED

5.      Modifying the attribute for DFS Plug-in.

5.1.   Launch iManager and select “Roles and Tasks†icon

5.2.   Click Directory Administration and select Modify Object

5.3.   Browse and select DFS object under RBS collection and clik OK

5.4.   Click on other tab and select "rbsXMLInfo" attribute in Valued Attributes list

5.5.   Edit the attribute and change the information between the version tags from 1.0.0 to 3.3.0

5.6.   Save the changes and logout from iManager

5.7.   Restart tomcat on Linux server using the following command

rcnovell-tomcat5 restart OR

 /var/opt/novell/tomcat5 restart

6.        Launch iManager and verify that the version for DFS Plug-in and Storage Content Module are updated correctly to 3.3.0

Additional Information

Note:
Patching iManager 2.7 to support pack 3 does not resolve the issue.

Novell Storage Related Plug-ins in iManager 2.7.2 includes
  1. Archive Versioning: arkmgmt.npm
  2. Clusters: ncsmgmt.npm
  3. Distributed File Services: dfsmgmt.npm
  4. File protocols > AFP and CIFS: afpmgmt.npm and cifsmgmt.npm
  5. Storage: nssmgmt.npm

Even after removing all Storage Plug-ins manually and reinstalling them using iManager, Storage Content Module still shows installed version as 1.0.0 instead of 3.3.0 and "Installed Novell Plug-ins" shows the version of all Storage Plug-ins as 3.3.X  except Distributed File Services Plug-in which still shows the version as 1.0.0. This is because the DFS plug-in has a version number of 1.0.0 and since all the storage plug-ins are linked together this prevents the Storage Content Module from being updated.
