NSS Volume Randomly Deactivates with Error 20012

Environment

Novell Open Enterprise Server 1 (OES 1) Linux
Novell Open Enterprise Server 2 (OES 2) Linux
Novell Storage Services (NSS)

Situation

  • /var/log/messages shows errors similar to the following:

  • Cluster Resource goes comatose

  • NSS Snapshot - File Level (Copy on Write) attribute is enabled
    • nsscon volumes from command line shows volume(s) with attribute of Snapshot file-level (Copy On Write)

Resolution

Workaround:  Disable Snapshot - File Level
  1. Run NSSMU as root
  2. Main Menu -> Volumes -> Navigate to volume -> <Enter>
  3. Set Snapshot - File Level = No     
  4. Apply the change
  5. Dismount and remount the volume
