Environment
Novell
Cluster Services 1.8.4
Novell
eDirectory 8.8 for Linux
Novell
eDirectory 8.8 for NetWare 6.5
Situation
Issue:
When ds/ndsd is restarted on a server hosting a cluster resource the
resource will deregister from the bindery.novell service after an hour timeout.
Symptoms:
- Software that relies on slp/bindery.novell for resolution will not be able to locate the cluster resource. An example would be SMS backup software.
- eDirectory does not re-register with slp for
cluster resource after ndsd is restarted.
Resolution
Reported
issue to engineering to address from a code standpoint.
Workaround:
First, before stopping and restarting ndsd for any reason, be sure to migrate any resources hosted by this server to another node in the cluster. This way the resource will not lose the slp registration.

To get the
cluster resource to register with bindery.novell, offline and on
line the resource again..
