Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 Service Pack 1
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 Service Pack 2
Novell ZENworks 7.2 Linux Management - ZLM7.2
Novell ZENworks 7.3 Linux Management - ZLM7.3

Situation

No more bundles are being stored on the repository. The following error will be displayed when zlmmirror runs:

Could not create repository directory: /var/opt/novell/zenworks/pkg-repo/packages/66f7).  An error occurred while processing the request. Please check the log file for details

The number of sub directories in /var/opt/novell/zenworks/pkg-repo/packages will be around 32,000.

It is not possible to create a new directory with mkdir command.

The ZLM repository is stored on a EXT3 file system.

Resolution

This is fixed in ZLM 7.3 Hot Patch 1 - see KB 7003346 "Updates to Novell ZENworks 7.3 Linux Management" which can be found at https://www.novell.com/support

Additional Information

The problem is with the EXT3 filesystem.  In EXT3 the maximum number of sub-directories that can be in 1 directory is around 32,000.  The XFS and ReiserFS file-systems do not have this limitation.
