Novell iManager 2.7
Novell Open Enterprise Server 2 (OES 2) Linux

NOTE: This is a best effort support recommendation, but do note that a re-install may be required as it is possible for these steps to break other services on the box if not performed properly. A complete re-installation of the OES2 server is the best recommendation.
How to reinstall iManager on an OES2 Linux server
iManager won't start
Only part of the iManager page is showing up.

A)   Does iManager need to be on this box? Can iManager be installed on another box?

Note: iManager Server can be limited to being installed on only a handful of servers in a large environment. It does not need to be installed on all servers.

B)   Is it feasible to use iManager workstation in your environment?

C)   Attempting to clean up the current installation:
Do not rename or delete any directories on the server

To re-install iManager 2.7 on an OES2 Linux server, follow the below steps:

1) Go to the command prompt and stop tomcat, by typing "rcnovell-tomcat5 stop"
2) Backup the directory /usr/lib/jvm/java/jre/lib/security/. You may have to restore it if any of the existing files are modified by the uninstall.

3) remove the Novell iManager package at the command prompt by typing...
"rpm -e --nodeps novell-imanager"
If you do not type this command and remove the package another way, you will probably break other services on the box.

4) Now perform the following:
  • Launch Yast2
  • on the left frame choose "Open Enterprise Server"
  • From the main frame choose, "OES Install and Configuration"
  • Choose the Details button on the Software Selction page.
  • Highlight Novell iManager, under the pattern section. Do Not uncheck it.
  • Under the list of packages, the novell-imanager package is not checked. Check the box next to it. and choose the accept button.
  • Once the package has been installed, it will bring up a configuration screen. Choose to enable the iManager configuration and continue the install of the plugins, by clicking on the disabled link option under iManager.
  • Once the install is fully finished, launch the iManager browser.

Additional Information

If iManager is re-install and is still not functioning properly do the the first two steps as outlined above and then rename or the /var/opt/novell/iManager/nps.  Then continue on with step three.

If iManager still doesn't work, it may be a problem with tomcat or apache.

If the file /etc/sysconfig/apache  has the line APACHE_SERVER_FLAGS="SSL" missing or has SSL missing in the quotation marks this could be the cause. Also check the line starting with APACHE_MODULES=, and see if it contains ssl as one of it's elements.

An enhancement has been entered to allow iManager to be removed through Yast on OES2 servers. Development and product management are researching this possibility.
